31 dead, 160 injured in Ogun road crashes

dailypost.ng The Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement (TRACE) Corps said a total of 31 persons died between December 15, 2019 and January 15, 2020 across Ogun State, being the festive period. DAILY POST reports that 160 persons sustained injuries in the various crashes. It recorded a total of 80 road crashes within the period, involving 11 private cars, 10 private buses, 13 commercial buses, 15 commercial cars, six motorcycles, one tricycle, 12 medium trucks, 11 heavy trucks and 13 other vehicles. According to a statement signed by TRACE spokesperson, Babatunde Akinbiyi, on Friday, “291 persons were involved in the road crashes, out of which 160 persons (96 males, 64 females) sustained various degrees of injuries; 31 persons (15 males, 16 females) we’re killed and 100 persons were rescued unhurt due to prompt response to 47 emergency calls received by TRACE Corps.” Akinbiyi said 41.93% of the road crashes was caused by excessive speed, 23.78% by dangerous driving, 10.9...

The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has set up a seven-man automobile technical committee with a mandate to fashion a strategy for an improved, profitable and sustainable automobile industry in the state. Speaking at the inauguration of the committee in Government House, Benin City, Obaseki said the committee has 90 days to come up with a workplan to sanitise and transform the industry and position it to drive productivity and economic growth in the state. NEMA cautions Anambra traders against use of combustible materials

National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has warned traders operating in markets within Anambra state to stop keeping inflammable materials within their shops to check incessant cases of fire outbreaks. The South-East NEMA Zonal officer Mr Kingsley Okoro gave the warning during a joint assessment visit to Automobile Spare Parts Market, Obosi, Idemili North of Anambra state by the agency in collaboration with Anambra State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) yesterday. He said findings by emergency workers shows that careless handling of inflammable materials constitutes major cause of fire outbreak recorded in the state in recent times. Dangote gives fresh air to anammco, Shacman Trucks

TSS in partnership with ANAMMCO, received a huge boost from the Dangote Group. The multinational industrial conglomerate recently placed a fresh order for Shacman heavy duty vehicles which are being assembled at the plant. Clearly the biggest and most consistent buyer of Shacman trucks, particularly the tractor units, Dangote Group has since the plant re-opened five years ago after a period of skeletal operations, taken delivery of no fewer than 1,500 units of various models of the brand. Shacman is widely regarded in China as the best in heavy duty vehicles, and the products are being assembled by the Enugu plant for TSS the brand’s representative in Nigeria, on contract basis.
