------ AUTOMOBILE 101 ------ By Engr Gozie Atueyi. People are more conversant with I - Engines and V - Engines but very few know about W - Engines. Volkswagen the owners of Bently are the only Automobile company in the world that produce "W" engines. This is similer to "V" engines but the only difference is "V" engines have 2 rows of cylinders on one side ie, 2 rows of 3 cylinders for V6 or 2 rows of 4 cylinders each for V8 engines but in the case of Bently W12 engines there are 4 row of 3 cylinders each. The engine is a 6.0 liter twin tubocharged that came into existence around 2002 as a replacement for the V12. Why Bently switched from V12 to W12 is the W12 is more compact, flater, shorter, and smarter. Due to the compactness, the engine now becomes more easy for full time AWD instead of the V12 rear wheel drive and also occupies lesser space inside the engine compactment. These W12 engines are hand-made by about 30 highly skilled craft men, and Bent...
When it comes to your car’s exhaust system, the catalytic converter (often called the "catalyst") plays a crucial role in reducing harmful emissions. However, when it fails, it can lead to performance issues and even legal problems. In this blog post, we’ll explore **how a catalytic converter works** and **what happens when it goes bad**. What Does a Catalytic Converter Do? The catalytic converter is an essential part of your car’s exhaust system. Its main job is to **convert harmful pollutants into less harmful gases** before they exit the tailpipe. Here’s how it works: 1. Reduces Harmful Emissions The catalyst contains precious metals like platinum, palladium, and rhodium, which facilitate chemical reactions that break down pollutants: - Carbon monoxide (CO)→ Converted into carbon dioxide (CO₂) - Hydrocarbons (HC)→ Converted into water (H₂O) and CO₂ - Nitrogen oxides (NOx) → Broken down into nitrogen (N₂) and oxygen (O₂)* 2. Helps M...
