WHAT IS A THE FUNCTION OF A DRIVE SHAFT IN CARS ?

Introduction. A drive shaft is an essential component of a car’s drivetrain system. It is a mechanical device that transfers torque from the engine to the wheels, allowing the vehicle to move. The drive shaft connects the transmission or transfer case to the differential, which then distributes power to the wheels. It plays a crucial role in transmitting rotational power while accommodating the up and down movement of the suspension. Without a drive shaft, the power generated by the engine would not reach the wheels, rendering the car immobile. A drive shaft is an essential component of a car’s drivetrain system that plays a crucial role in transmitting mechanical energy from the vehicle’s transmission to the wheels. It is responsible for transferring the rotational force generated by the engine to the wheels, allowing the car to move forward. Definition of a Drive Shaft A drive shaft, also known as a propeller shaft, is a mechanical component that connects the transmission...

15 SENSORS AND THEIR FUNCTIONS IN CARS.

How many sensors are in a car engine? There are around 15-30 sensors in a modern car engine if you don’t include the solenoids. You can find over 70 sensors in a modern car if you count every sensor in the whole car. 1. Engine Oil Level Sensor Oil Level Sensor One of the most common sensors in your vehicle is the engine oil level sensor. This sensor measures the oil level in your engine oil pan to ensure that it’s at a safe operating capacity. If you don’t have enough oil, this sensor will cause an oil level warning light on your dashboard.  This sensor is often installed on the bottom of the oil pan, so you need to tap out the engine oil to replace it. This depends on the engine model, though. 2. Engine Oil Pressure Sensor Oil Pressure Sensor The engine oil pressure sensor is often quite similar to the oil level sensor, except that it measures the oil pressure after the oil pump. You will often find this sensor located at the engine block, often near the fuel filter. T...

SIDE EFFECTS OF USING WATER AS COOLANT

------ AUTOMOBILE 101 ------ Few days ago somebody called, his friend refered him to me. He complained of one tricky overheating issue on his Lexus Rx. The car overheats only on long journey but driving whithin town it doesn't overheat.  I inquired about condition of his radiator he said he changed it not long ago. I asked after the fans he has changed them. I asked after his water pump he said his mechanic confirmed it ok. I asked if his thermostat is regulating well he said his mechanic already removed it. I asked if his gear is selecting well he confirmed it. I asked about the exhust he confirmed it free. Any history of water shortage he said no. I inquired on condition of the head gasket it was confirmed ok. So i gave him appointment to bring the car for physical inspection.  NOTE:  There are different types of overheating and symptoms.  ▪︎ If the engine is overheating due to coolant leakage its easy to fix, just find the leaking point and take necess...

BREAK PAD WEAR!

WHY ONE SIDE OF YOUR BRAKE PAD (INNER SIDE) WEAR OFF MORE THAN THE OTHER SIDE (OUTER SIDE)   HOW DOES A CAR BRAKE SYSTEM WORK? When you apply your brake you push fluid from you brake fluid reservoir through the brake master into the caliper forcing a piston into the brake pads, forcing the pads to push into the spinning disc know as the rotor and brings the rotation to a halt and your vehicle to a halt too. Now after you'v applied your brake the brake disc stops the piston from moving further, the caliper itself slides back towards the car along two little rails called GUIDE PIN. NOW WHEN YOU NOTICE ONE SIDE OF YOUR BRAKE PAD WEARS OFF FASTER THEN THE OTHER SIDE,  WHAT IS LIKELY THE CAUSE? Most brake calipers have single piston which means instead of two pistons pushing each of the pad on both sides only one piston from the inner side of the caliper do the work. It does the pushing while your guide pins do the returning. Anytime you want to change your brake pads a...

CHECK YOUR CAR WELL BEFORE THAT LONG XMAS TRIP !

------ AUTOMOBILE 101 ------ Christmas & New year is around the corner and definitely people will travel but "CAN YOUR CAR HANDLE THAT LONG TRIP?" Before you start blaming anybody first ask yourself, is it this car you drive only on Sundays or once a week you want to do that 7-16hrs journey with? That car that has been sleeping in your garage for months now, don't mind its body and engine are looking sharp it's depreciating day by day due to long parking. Now listen, Engr Gozie Atueyi  is advising you now, if your car didt meet up with most of the requirements below I will advice you not to put the car on the road for that long journey, find an alternative way of traveling so you woun't blame yourself.  1▪︎If the car have not done at least a complete 3-4hrs journey in the last 6 months please don't put her on that 7-16hrs journey, she may disappoint you because the pistons, valves, injector nozzles or even the exhaust catalyst must have blocked...

WHY DO WATER COME OUT FROM VEHICLE EXHAUST? IS IT GOOD OR BAD?

------ AUTOMOBILE 101 ------ I know you must have heard that when water drops from your exhaust it means your engine is in good condition. Well you may be right but not all the time because it could mean your engine is about to park up. Now let's analyze some of the reasons: 1▪︎ When an engine is off and cools down completely and exhaust gasses leaving the combustion chamber, condensation of water, nitrogen and carbon dioxide takes place and you will notice water dripping from your car exuhst. (Similar thing that happens on top of your pot cover when your cooking) 2▪︎CATALYTIC CONVERTERS. When the exhaust system exhibits toxic carbon gasses, the catalytic converter is responsible for filtering and reducing these gasses, compress them and push them out through the exhaust. As this is going on some amount of water vapor is formed as a result which later forms little water droplets that now come out of your exhaust. (If your catalyst is bad, blocked or stolen or you instal...

DO SOME VEHICLE REALLY CONSUME MORE FUEL THAN OTHERS ?

If your making a list of fuel economical cars, Y2K compliant vehicles and you did't include: Mercedes,   Kia,  Hyundai,  Volkswagen,   Nissan,  Peugeot ...... just know you're not Y2K complaint.  Your still living in the Analog world. When i say fuel economy i dont mean vehicles with very big fuel tank that can last for long journey or the types with fuel guage that take long before it drops one bar but once one bar drops before you say Jack tank is already empty. When i say fuel ecomomy i don't mean cars with tiny engines that can't even push out aggressive power nor the folk tales you were made to believe without proof. I mean cars with moderate or even big engines with plenty power yet covers longer distance faster than your tiny engine vehicle and with less fuel. This is why you need to know the EXACT fuel consumption of your engine per km/ mile or per hour at average RPM not making baseless arguments without facts. Assuming a 3.5L...

DO YOU KNOW THE MAINTENANCE COST OF YOUR CAR?

------ AUTOMOBILE 101 ------ WE SUFFER FOR LACK OF KNOWLEDGE A friend want to buy a car and sent me this pictures asking me to recomend one for him. I told him this they are same. Three of them are like Friday, Saturday and Sunday.  He didt understand then i went further to explain. ▪︎ Do you know buying a car is not a problem but maintaining it. ▪︎Do you know all cars are good, they simply give you what you gave them. ▪︎Do you know about BORDER SHARING in automobiles? ▪︎Do you know all car manufacturers are doing boarder sharing for things to be easy for them and us but out of ignorance we choose to suffer ourselves. When I say BORDER SHARING I mean cars of similar features using same parts. Cars made whithin same period , apart from body parts other parts, underneath, suspension, engine are same.  Let me put it like this:  THOSE PARTS THAT DIDN'T AFFECT THE SHAPE OF THE CAR are almost same for  car companies whithin a time frame of about 5 years before ...

THIS IS WHY YOU CAR IS OVERHEATING

-----AUTOMOBILE 101----- I always tell people, overheating is not a fault but symptoms of a fault just like headache and high body temperature are symptoms of some sickness in your body. Some bad mechanics are always quick in assuming faults without making proper diagnosis and some evil ones among them will always push you into repairs that will fetch them more money. Solution to engine overheating or burnt head gasket is not changing the gasket but first find cause of the overheating, else you will change gasket tire. Anytime i get complain of overheating first thing i will advice is to find cause of the overheating and solve it before doing any other thing. I made a post on causes of overheating and also  pinned the post on my wall. That pinned post have been on my wall over 2 yrs now but our people hate reading, even when i direct them to the post they will even ask you to send the post to their inbox or read it for them. Thank God this my friend took my little advic...

Want to buy a W-Engine vehicle?

------ AUTOMOBILE 101 ------ By Engr Gozie Atueyi.  People are more conversant with I - Engines and V - Engines but very few know about W - Engines. Volkswagen the owners of Bently are the only Automobile company in the world that produce "W" engines. This is similer to "V" engines but the only difference is "V" engines have 2 rows of cylinders on one side ie, 2 rows of 3 cylinders for V6 or 2 rows of 4 cylinders each for V8 engines but in the case of Bently W12 engines there are 4 row of 3 cylinders each. The engine is a 6.0 liter twin tubocharged that came into existence around 2002 as a replacement for the V12. Why Bently switched from V12  to  W12 is the W12 is more compact, flater, shorter, and smarter. Due to the compactness, the engine now becomes more easy for full time AWD instead of the V12 rear wheel drive and also occupies lesser space inside the engine compactment. These W12 engines are hand-made by about 30 highly skilled craft men, and Bent...

DOES YOUR CAR JERK?

So many things can make an engine cut off power when you need more power from the engine. You said you've replaced the fuel pump, nozzles and spark plugs yet no improvement.  find solution to a problem first thing is observation of the problem. Since this happens only when you speed up to 80 - 100km and above what it means is it happens when much power has been drawn from the engine and more power still needed. Now what are those factors/components responsible for helping the engine push out more power with increased RPM or workload ie components that adjust with higher pressure or RPM? Fuel pump, Nozzles, Throttle body, air filter, engine oil, coil, pressure vaccum, blocked exhust, MAF etc. Now on this case, did you take time to read the value of your Air : Fuel Ratio? This value is suppose to be 16.5 (air) : 1 (petrol). If your MAF is not good or air filter is blocked by dirts and this value becomes less due to engine suffocation as result of the blockage the engine will b...

NOT ALL MECHANICS ARE MECHANICS!

A very quick one. You see most of those exotic super luxury and powerful cars you use to admire and wishing to have one some day. Rolls-Royce,  Bently,  Lamborghini,  Porsche etc, this is how their engine look. This one no be "oga it fit be the plug or make we service the nozzle"......mba. I just say make i inform you. Just minding my business.  ©️Engr Gozie Atueyi.

WHY YOUR DRIVE SHAFT ALWAYS PULL

------ AUTOMOBILE 101 ----- Drive Shaft fault is a very annoying fault especially front wheel vehicles with flat engines.  Drive shafts pull out for many reasons. Major reason is bad or absence of Outer shaft KEY LOCK. That lock looks like ring used in locking the shaft rod inside the outer cup. Most fairly used/ tokumbo shaft in the market do have this issue. About 85% of them dont have key lock. The reason is thus: Most fairly used shaft in the market are not follow come but coupled inside that market, i dont have problem with that but where i have problem is the process used in the coupling. The process used in coupling them is so crude.   They forcefully hammer off the cups, breaking the key lock and after coupling they hardly install a new key lock. That small key lock is more than N2,000 so if the seller couples 100 shafts do you expect him to replace all key locks at that price but this is where you the buyer have to come in by insisting to confirm it has the...

WRONG SELECTION OF ENGINE OIL MAJOR FACTOR FOR MOST ENGINE DAMAGES

Most people think work of Engine oil is just for lubrication of engine, not at all. Apart from lubrication engine oil also: ~ Neutralizes Acidic compounds generated inside the engine  ~ Cleans out Sludge inside the engine ~ Inhibits Oxidation and Corrosion inside inside the engine. But the bitter truth is not all engine oil do this. How do you know the right one for your engine and how long they should stay inside the engine before they loose their tensile strenght and viscosity? ©️Engr Gozie Atueyi.
